Just announced: Santa Cruz native Stef Mariani, nominated for Hawai‘i music awards,

to perform live at the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards

(Honolulu, Hawai‘i) — A finalist for two Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards this year by the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts, singer and songwriter Stef Mariani will perform “Stay Gold” May 19 during the statewide telecast and global live-stream of the awards via KFVE-TV

“Stay Gold” is the name of her most recent album as well as its title-track. More than just a song, through “Stay Gold,” Stef Mariani spreads an uplifting, encouraging message to all who hear.

“It can be really hard to Stay Gold — or to stay kind and soft-hearted when faced with difficult trials in life. But by doing just one little thing each week, or each day, you can spread a dash of light and a reflection of universal love. I truly believe that,” she said.

Stef Mariani is the daughter of Northern California-based folk singer-songwriter Carolyn Haley-Murray. “My mom is an amazing performer, on top of being a writer,” Stef said. “I remember being little and singing in her band when they were rehearsing.” Her earliest influences have carried her forward to her own success.

“Stay Gold” was produced by Grammy Award- and Hōkū-Award-winning Dave Tucciarone. Released on Stef’s Klever Kitty Records, “Stay Gold” has secured her an Alternative Album of the Year nomination, as well as a nomination as Female Vocalist of the Year. As a Hōkū finalist, Stef also was in the running for Favorite Entertainer of the Year in online, with the winner to be announced as part of the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards May 19. The Hōkū broadcast and live-stream begin at 5:30 p.m. Hawaiian Standard Time.

Her previous albums, “This Wave” and “Colour My Soul,” also have been finalists for Hōkū Awards. Stef is also a three-time winner at the Big Island Music Awards.

“Stef, she’s so genuine she really loves what she does and she puts her whole body and soul into it. It’s a full-body experience for her and it comes from her soul, it comes from within,” Tucciarone said.

Stef also has worked with 2015 Grammy Award-winning composer Wouter Kellerman, among other music industry luminaries, who she leaves with powerfully positive impressions. “I think spreading the good energy is what she’s about, and that’s what I’m about as well. That’s why I want to tell the story with the music. A positive story, an inspiring story, that’s what I get from her music,” Kellerman said.

The “Stay Gold” title track has drawn so much response that it has become a movement in Hawai‘i and beyond. Also beyond the music, Stef has been inspired to produce a documentary to highlight the small, practical ways that each of us can be the change in tumultuous times. A clip of the documentary as well as Stef’s music videos can be viewed on her website and her YouTube channel

“She knows she has a message that’s good, and positive, and that’s what’s behind her needing to be seen on a grander level and a grander scale,” said Tantra Grillo, Hōkū winner, hip-hop artist, and longtime radio personality. “I think that her ultimate goal is to be able to heal people through her music. I really believe that.”

Stef was invited to be the headlining performer for the “Pakele Live” show at The Willows restaurant in Honolulu May 3 — a show that was live-streamed online. An edited version of the two-hour performance will later be shown statewide on Spectrum OC16 in Hawai‘i, viewable online in and beyond the islands with a Time-Warner Cable or Charter Communications subscriber ID.
